Supermicro 6015T-TV 1U
Conclusion:
The 6015T delivers what it promises to companies and the end users, lots of computing power in a lot less space. The implications to standard server environements of two servers in the same space as a single 1U of space can change the way network deployments and design are done. IT admins may only need a single half rack to do the same jobs as would formerly take up two full racks. The cost savings of the 980w high efficiency PSU are undeniable as is the low cost of the 6015T for what is provided.
If the 6015T has any fault it is the lack of additional drive bays or a built in CD/DVD rom drive. This limitation is easily overcome with an external DVD drive or the implementation of a WSS (Windows Storage Server) as seen in our review here. To be quite honest there are very few 1U rackmount cases that you will find with more than 4 hard drive bays that also include a motherboard in the same space. Were we to make any recommendations for design changes in the 6015T it might be to allow for the use of SAS 2.5 drives which could increase the speed and hard drive density of this server.
Overall we were higly impressed with the 6015T and the businesses we have demo'd the unit to were all equally impressed with the power and performance of two servers in 1U of space.
