Asus released the S101 as a "fashion" model designed to be ultra light and thin. There are many references pitting it against Apple's Macbook Air as competition. The S101 has a very nice finish and at 1" thin the S101 is certainly one of the thinnest PC laptops on the market. The S101 has drawn criticism for its less than standard integrated webcam and the lack of biometrics which is included on the N10 model. Additionally it should be notes that the Windows XP Home model is only offered with the 16GB SSD with the 32 and 64GB SSD equipped models coming with Linux installed.
The S101 is significantly more expensive than most other netbooks with the exception of the Gigabyte M912 and the Asus N10 due to design. The S101 has much nicer accents, chrome parts, a better finish, brushed aluminum palm rests, and Swarovsky crystals set into the hinges. Aside from the design and looks department under the hood the S101 is nearly identical to all other netbooks.
