Shown below are a few photos of the Z8000. Click on each photo for a larger photo of the product. What may be hard to see is the five, yes five, USB 2.0 ports scattered around the laptop. With that many ports on hand, you'll wonder what other devices you can get to use all those ports.
The Media Card reader on the right side was found to be very useful. The Media Card reader can read from seven different types of media, so those with MP3 players and digital cameras will really use this device, which should be standard on other laptops but is not. Access times were quick and the devices appear as an additional drive in My Computer.
Battery Power and Weight:
The battery life and weight of the laptop are ususally to second most important areas of importance when considering a laptop. For those of us on the go, we are looking at these two areas with the upmost hope in search of a laptop that will last forever on a battery is light as a feather to carry. This Spartan in both cases comes pretty close. The benchtest for the battery life was quite impressive with the ability to run wireless and play a CPU intensive game while running off the battery, the time span lasted well over two hours. The battery would last a lot longer if one was watching a DVD or typeing up a paper. The issue with all laptops that use wireless is the amount of power used in order to run the wireless card. This one that was intergrated in the Spartan did use up the battery noticeable quicker than when it was shut off, but it did outlast laptops TWL had reviewed in the past. When it comes to the weight of a laptop, it depends if the user will end up carrying it from the desk to a conference room, or from gate to gate at the airport. The Spartan comes out on the lighter side in comparison to other laptops TWL reviewed.
