When we first saw the Ultra Stackable Series, we were slightly impressed, but mostly thought, "Oh boy, here is yet ANOTHER external hard drive enclosure...", but it turns out we were wrong. With its ability to stack virtually every peripheral you would need into one clean pile, and look good at the same time, the Stackables definitely have some charm. To top that off, the versatility of everything, as in the choice between USB, FireWire, or SATA for your hard drive. The ability to make your computer eSATA ready if it currently isn't. With adequate power, limiting the use of wall outlets, and also offering protection so you never have to worry about losing data due to a surge. No more destroyed hard drives or usb drives. Yes, the Stackables series is much more than simply another enclosure. Ultra tries to fulfill every need a savvy tech user or data hoarder will have, and this reviewer fully believes they have accomplished that.
The options offered here are brilliant. While some companies try and shove as many products down a buyers throat with proprietary pieces, or simply "This item will only work when you have this item!", Ultra did not do that. Users have the options of simply buying a card reader, or hard drive enclosure, simply what they need. You can plug your single peripheral straight into the wall and be on your merry way. In the box comes everything you would need to either stand whatever device you buy on its side, limiting its footprint on your desk, or leave it flat. The option of not being required to buy the power supply, if you simply wanted to plug everything into the wall, you could, is also very considerate to the consumer here. Choice between IDE or SATA hard drives, full 3000Mbps for eSATA, everything included in the box that you would need, all very good features.
From a design point of view, everything looks great. From the brushed aluminum of the power supply, providing strength and a sleek look to the base of the tower. Then each other piece in a nice, rubberized shell, providing durability, as well as a pleasing look. The numerous LED indicators never leaving you wondering just what is going on, and even can compliment a "pimped out" rig, but not be intrusive enough to take away from a professional environment. All in all, the Ultra Stackable Series provides a well designed and elegant solution to any external situation. If you are looking for an enclosure or two, or a usb hub or card reader, this reviewer highly recommends the Ultra Stackables. They will not, and do not, disappoint.
