New AMD 780G Platform and Low Power 4850e Processor

Bechmarks Cont.:

Crystalmark

4850e Default
Phenom 9600 Default

As expected the ALU, FPU, and MEM all see significant boosts in measureable performance due to the quad core vs dual core nature of the Phenom. Otherwise the rest of the graph remains much the same.

Lightsmark:

4850e Default
4850e Overclocked
Phenom 9600 Default

We were unable to achieve a stable overclock using the Phenom 9600 and still run this benchmark. The 4850e was very easy to overclock and reach stable speeds with a relatively low bump in voltages.

Geekbench:

4850e Default
4850e Overclocked
Phenom 9600 Default

Phenom 9600 Overclocked

As you can see the scaling of the Phenom is much better in this benchmark than in the 4850e given the relatively small increase in speed compared with the 500MHz overclock of the 4850e.

Whetstone

4850e Default
4850e Overclocked
Phenom 9600 Default

Phenom 9600 Overclocked

Interestingly enough the 4850e actually beats the Phenom here in both default and overclocked states. This test is obviously single threaded and speed dependant.

Conclusion:

The 780G offers a compelling new reason for consumers to select AMD to power their next machine. not only does 780G provide a greater degree of expansion and connectivity options but the onboard graphics is now capable of allowing users to play games that were previously unavailable due to low performance. Pair the 780G with the new 4850e processor by AMD and you have a low energy use, high performance, and yet silent solution which can easily fit into your living room to power all of your entertainment needs.

Now that AMD has put forth their first IGP that offers significant gaming and performance gains we expect to see this tradition continue and grow. Ideally we would like to see the addition of another PCIe slot and more powerful graphics with a wider array of compatible hybrid cards. We can't wait to see AMD's release of the graphics processor/cpu combo chip whenever that is released. Without any real downsides to the 780G we are pleased to award it our Awesome Hardware award.
