Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 6Y200M0 200GB SATA

Review by Matthew Homan on 6/06/04

Benchmark

The Maxtor drive was put through a few benchmarks for performance which we will get to shortly. The other areas that were observed was how quite the drive was in comparison to the average IDE drive and the fact that the drive didn’t even get warm. With those two facts on the board should make a few of us who strive for a quite machine and the option to cut out one more fan from the system should take notice.

The benchmark below from SiSoft reports an impressive mark showing that this single SATA drive is equal in performance to a two ATA66 in the Stripe. So one can imagine what two of the Maxtor SATA drives would report when setup in a stripe. Also noteworthy, while this single SATA drive is reporting 49MB/s, it is just shy of the SCSI running at 15k RPMs. That is actually impressive when you put the numbers together. The Maxtor drive being a single drive running at 7200RPM is just two megabytes shy of a 15,000 RPM SCSI drive. Now that is advancing technology
