Seagate Momentus 7200.2 Laptop Hard Drive

Conclusion:

As most of the tests we ran were synthetic in nature we decided it was important to remark on just how well the Seagate Momentus 7200.2 drive performed in every day computing. From boot up times to file access and starting programs the overall benefits of this drive lead to a much better computing experience. Think of the transition and industry acceptance that occured when desktop drives migrated from 5400 to 7200 RPM as a standard. This was by in large due to the massive performance gains as most users do not want to sit and wait for their programs to start or menu's to open. 7200 RPM drives decrease the lag and increase the snappiness of the operating system as a whole and here we are seeing this same benefit in the mobile market. at some point we may even see 10,000 or 15,000 SAS drives embed into a mobile platform for use. The technology would have to become much more effecient before that occurs or the power source would need to pack more energy into a smaller space, but in the end it will eventually occur.

Our results show that the benefits of using the Seagate 7200.2 drive far exceed the small hit we saw in battery life. The Momentus 7200.2 has since taken the place of the older 5400 RPM Scorpio drive in our laptop as performance is king and we find that we can live with the small decrease in battery life. If you are looking to breath new life into your mobile platform and have it run faster than when it was new we highly suggest you swap out your hard drive for a Momentus 7200.2 drive as an upgrade or when you make your next purchase of a new notebook PC.
