Klegg NetDisk MEGA NDAS
Testing:
Our installation of the device was very easy. Simply unpack, plug it in, attach the ethernet cable, and turn it on. Installing the software can be done in one of two modes, USB or NDAS. Most users will want the device to function in NDAS mode for which you need an NDAS driver and the software from Klegg. The good thing is that the software is very thin and uses slightly less than 6MB of memory when running. Once installed you need to configure the software to recognize the drive. On the bottom of the drive is a device ID and Write Key. This information allows you to install the device on the system in a read only or read/write mode. This is great for IT admins and home users that want to share data but not allow certain users to change the data. The setup is so simple that the end user doesnt need to know anything about networking or permissions to accomplish this task. The wizard is straight forward and simple asking the fewest amount of questions to get you up and running fast.

Our test transferrs occured quickly and at the full speed of a typical 10/100 ethernet speed. Real life ready status is achieved in just under 7 seconds from off to full on and connected status. In all the entire installation completed in 15 steps or less and we were up and using our software. Now to connect additional PCs to the NetDisk MEGA you need to install the software again on that PC, however, Klegg has made the process easier by including an export function that allows you to save the drive registration details so you can double click on the saved file and import it automatically on all additional PCs. You can save the exported file as a read or read and write file which makes management of the drive access much much easier. Two thumbs up for Klegg on actually thinking about how the end users would have to use the device and making the management an easy process.
Conclusion:
Klegg has a great product with the NetDisk MEGA and one which takes all the hassle out of a normally difficult process of attaching a NAS device then configuring permissions. The only downside to the NetDisk MEGA is that its storage capacity is less than we would like to see. 250Gb is still a lot of room even for a small to medium business but capacities ranging in excess of 750GB are now available with users purchasing them quickly. We can only hope that Klegg releases a similar product with enhanced storage capacity as the NetDisk MEGA made a believer and happy user out of us.
Update: Capacities up to 500GB are now available at a very cheap price which makes this product a no brainer choice for your next network accessible storage with easy configuration and management.
