Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 500GB |
There isn't a whole lot to say about this drive
that is different than the 400GB 7200.8 model we reviewed a while back. It
is a monster of a drive that will fill the needs of anyone looking for the most
space possible out of one hard drive. However once again we come to the
price of this drive, which is no cheaper than $337 USD currently on Dealtime.
With the recent price drop of 300GB drives, you could easily drop less money on
two Seagate 300GB hard drives and throw them into a RAID configuration.
Thus, ending up with a cheaper and faster setup.
However looking at the Seagate 500GB 7200.9 hard
drive against other top contenders; the benchmarks are rather unsettled.
The benchmarks seem to be all over the place, not to mention abnormally good in
the burst speed test which the drive scored WELL above the rest. The burst
speed test was taken several times over to confirm the accuracy, and we received
the same results each time.
Overall, we feel that if you do need this much
space in your PC then invest in a couple smaller cheaper hard drives and setup a
RAID configuration, don't drop the cash on one larger hard drive. On the
other hand, if you absolutely need 500GB per drive then this Seagate 500GB
7200.9 hard drive is the way to go.
