Corsair 32GB Voyager Flash Drive

Corsair Voyager

Testing:

We tested the Corsair Voyager in a Dell Latitude Laptop. The Voyager, as most flash drives, is designed to be portable and laptops seem a perfect pairing for these drives. The concept being one of enhancing the storage of your laptop significantly while not consuming power or adding additional weight. If you need the information plug the device in and access it and then unplug when done. You gain the ability to carry much more information and not only have that information accessed by multiple machines with ease but also the ability to transfer huge stores of information in a plug and play style.

Our Test Machine:

Dell Latitude D630
1.8Ghz Core 2 Duo
2.5GB DDR2 667
Seagate 200GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
Windows XP Pro SP2
USB 2.0 Ports

We compared the Corsair Voyager 32GB in speed, access times, and transfer rates against a Kingston DataTraveler 4GB Flash Drive.

What we noticed from these tests is that the Corsair Voyager almost doubles the performance of the Kingston DataTraveler. The DataTraveler averaged 12MB/s while the Voyager averaged 22MB/s. At the same time the DataTraveler utilized approximately 8% of the CPU and the Voyager utilized 15%. We did not notice a performance impact to our laptop during transfers and were still able to multi-task. On older, single cpu laptops the impact would be far greater and thus the 15% utilization may prevent you from effectively multi-tasking with ease.

Here again we noticed that the Voyager doubles the performance of the DataTraveler. Remember that we are testing the standard Voyager and not even the Voyager GT which is rated for faster transfer rates.

Conclusion:

The Corsair Voyager 32GB drive is simply a massive amount of storage in a small form and highly portable. Put this pen drive in your pocket and your taking with you as much information as you would like to carry with virtually no drawbacks. The Voyager has a great transfer rate for such a large drive which will come in handy when transferring those extra large files. With an online price of about $155 it represent an exceptional value in portable storage at about $4.84 per Gigabyte for fast memory in a single drive. Expect higher street prices so we would highly recommend purchasing the drive online and save your cash for other hardware.
