The performance of EVGA's e-GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB video card is breathtaking! The N545 easily performs up to 25% better than their current 7800 GTX card and claims the title as fastest video chipset available on today's market. But, Nvidia really tapped this resource to its fullest in terms of clockspeed and it will only be available/affordable to the few.
Given this price point, we would not encourage current 256MB 7800 GTX owners to upgrade to this card since they would have to shell out an extra $300. However, even if you want the fastest video card on the market, we would also suggest waiting and watching. Knowing EVGA's devoted pursuit to provide enthusiasts with the fastest video card on the market, one can only expect they will release an even faster, overclocked version of this N545 video card with clock speeds as high as 600/1800MHz.
In summary:
Pros:
- EVGA backs their 512-P2-N545-AX 7800 GTX 512MB card with Lifetime Warranty and 24/7 Technical Support.
- EVGA's card follows Nvidia's reference design to guarantee best quality and compatibility.
- EVGA uses a copper heatsink, extra thermal tape, and heatpipes for cooling the core and memory.
- This video card is SLI compatible.
- One of the fastest video cards on the market.
Cons:
- Needs a 450W power supply.
- Two slots thick and will be a tight squeeze if used in SLI.
- Expensive! Nvidia MSRP of $649. Possibly higher street price?
- Poor overclock results: 581 MHz / 1750 MHz.
Thank you EVGA for sending us the video cards to review!
