Crysis Warhead

Crysis Warhead

About Crysis Warhead:

Crysis Warhead updates and refines the game play of the original game through a side story plot involving Psycho, one of previous protagonist Nomad's allies. The game is a parallel story that follows Sergeant Michael "Psycho" Sykes,a character from the original Crysis, as he faces his own trials and challenges on the other side of the island during the time period of the first game. It features new fully customizable weapons, vehicles and enemies, along with new multiplayer content. It also showcases a new, enhanced and optimized version of CryEngine 2 and is the first game developed by Crytek's Budapest studio. Crysis Warhead seems to be the most demanding game out on the market to date.

To benchmark Crysis Warhead, we used Guru3D's FBWH Benchmarking Tool 0.29. We opted for "Gamer" settings (which equate to the original Crysis High settings) with DX10. The ambush fly through seemed to be the most ideal map for testing, and we only needed 1 loop to obtain decent results. We tested three resolutions with no AA, 2xAA, 4xAA, and 8xAA aliasing.

The original output files can be seen here. A graphical representation of these results is provided below.

We can see here that game play is acceptable (~30 FPS) only up to 1024x768 with 4xAA, though it also dipped down to a min of 8.86 FPS as well. The average FPS dips down to a terrible 11.13 at 1680x1050 with 8xAA.

Bottom Line: The Gigabyte 512MB 9800GT can play Crysis Warhead at 1024x768 with 4xAA on Gamer with no problem.
