Macworld 2008

Day 2 - Keynote & Macworld Party

Around 6:00 in the morning, things started to get moving. News vans were pulling up left and right and there was a near constant flow of expo personnel into the building. We all had to sit it out until around 8:00AM when they brought us in and had us sit around inside the exhibition hall while the VIP's, special guests, press, and higher pass level attendees were being taken to the third floor where the presentation takes place. Finally, shortly after 9:00AM (running a bit late), we were led upstairs.

I managed to slip into a seat only a dozen rows back from the far right side of the stage. A few minutes later, the lights dimmed and a special Mac vs PC commercial made just for the event played. After it ended, Steve Jobs came on stage to thuderous applause and cheers. The show went on, with guests from Intel and Fox, and finally it got to the good stuff: new products! Steve anounced the AppleTV Take 2 software update and then, from a manilla envelope sitting on the presentation desk, he pulled out the new MacBook Air. The special closing guest for this year's keynote was Randy Newman who played a few tunes to help bring the audience down from all the excitement. Overall, it was my first keynote and will definitely not be the last.

Later that evening there was a big party (for those that registered for it) a few blocks over from Moscone West. The celebrations were in full swing when I showed up. I got my drink tickets, swag bag, free t-shirt and ventured forward to the concert hall. As I neared the stage I could finally make out the band who was playing: Devo! The Devo! I joined the crowd full of all the other folk jumping up and down and singing along and rocked out for the night. The event finished off with a prize raffle (from which I did not win anything).
