Arctic Silver 5

Review by Jason Jacobs on 03/11/04
Power Supply Provided by Arctic Silver

Application:

Anyone that has used silicone paste and Arctic Silver 2 knows what a pain application and removal can be. Application often takes between 5 to 10 minutes with a fine edge razor to get an even thin coating. The directions for application can be found here on the Arctic Silver website. I sat the processor in the standalone PGA holder to begin application and squeezed a small amount of Arctic Silver 5 onto the core. Immediately noticable was that Arctic Silver 5 was MUCH thicker than previous incarnations of this product. It was also much more grey and less silver looking and the 3.5 gram container weighed more than previous Arctic Silver injectors. Presumably this is due to the silver content and mixture used.

According to Arctic Silver's instructions you only need a little of this paste spread on the core and some additional paste spread onto and them wiped from the heatsink in preparation.
