XPERT Modules (aka LED Modules)
The main attraction with the 3200XL module is the added cool factor of the XPERT Module that Corsair have added to series. These XPERT Modules simply 'Clip On' to the RAM Modules and
the XPERT display pumps out some important information about the RAM such as:
- Voltage display (within +/- 2.5%)
- Frequency display (within 0.02 MHz)
- Temperature display (Accuracy of +/- 1.0 oC)
- Memory Load display
Not only that, but using the bundled software - which we'll cover a little later - you can also:
- Personalized static or scrolling messages
- Select to display in Centigrade or Fahrenheit
- Show up to 23 characters per marquee
- Adjust the scrolling speed
The 3200XL comes with a LED Module that clips onto the top of the RAM module.
These can be arranged in many different ways, including having them in an L-Shape as pictured above or without the XPERT modules. Depending on your particular motherboard
and what other RAM modules may be installed you can configure the XPERT modules to be clipped any way you like. You can also remove them all-together (although we don't know
why you would!) and
the 3200XL will still function at its expected settings. WARNING: Make sure the RAM is securely placed inside the motherboard DIMM slot before trying to insert the XPERT Module.
Corsair have taken the necessary steps to ensure that the values presented on the XPERT modules are very accurate, and such they've included the ability to change the messages that
appear on the LED display - powered by a low-powered processor - using the included bundled software.
Bundled Software
Corsair includes a 3MB install of the Corsair Memory Dashboard application which can be freely downloaded from the Corsair website.
On its own, the dashboard gives some vital information about the RAM modules inside your system, from timings, frequency to temperatures just like many freely available tools.
However, the Dashboard utility has another purpose, and one purpose that wont be available on the internet outside of Corsair! Its to customize the LED display on your XPERT Modules.
Here we can enter custom readings from the predefined options or create our own custom messages and tweak the timings of the display.
Plug n Frag Technology
Corsair's unique Plug n Frag technology allows anyone to stick in the
memory modules and ensure that its working at its peak latency setting
automatically without the need to go through the BIOS and configure
settings manually. While it may sound cutting edge, its actually
Corsair pre-programming the modules SPD (Serial Presense Detect) chips
to use the 2-2-2-5 timing.
