AMD 3800+ X2

Author:  Matthew Homan
Date:  2005.08.01
Topic:  Processors
Provider:  AMD
Manufacturer:  AMD

Test Setup:

TWL choose the following setup to demonstrate the abilities of this chip in comparison with its big brother the AMD X2 4800+, which uses this same platform in our review earlier.

AMD 64 Athlon X2 3800+
Maxtor 80GB SATA
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe (Beta Bios)
1GB 2X512 Crucial Pc3200
Windows XP Pro SP2 (32 bit)

Since this processor is so new, the beta bios of the Asus A8N Deluxe motherboard will not recognize the processor name, but that did not keep the processor from running and utilizing both cores. It is expected that when Asus releases the next bios for the A8N board it will recognize the processor type properly.

We tested the AMD X2 3800+ with the following software:

3DMark05
3DMark03
3Dmark2001SE
Cinebench2003
Code Creatures
CPU-Z
CrystalMark09
Sisoft
Quake3 Arena
Battlefield2

OK, now on to the benchmarking.
