Introduction

For those consumers who are looking for a portable media storage device with redundancy, the engineers at CRU DataPort have developed the DataPort 25 Hand-Held RAID device to fill this requirement. This small device holds two 2.5" drives and has the capability of RAID at a hardware level to limit the overhead on your system. This small device can be configured with mirroring to provide redundancy between drives or if you want more speed without redundancy, you can choose to stripe accross the two drives. Also, the docking station has the option to be connected to your system's SATA port for better data transfer speeds than USB 2.0. Lets take a look at what else the DataPort 25 has to offer.

There are plenty of portable drives out on the market today from the 2.5” Vantec Nexstar-SX to the 3.5” VOX V1 External Hard Drive to choose from, but both of those do not offer what the CRU DataPort has. The DataPort is a dual 2.5” hard drive casing with a built-in RAID backplane and fitted with a 3.5” drive bay docking station. That may not sound like a lot, but it is the simplicity of CRU’s DataPort that makes it so unique. Such features as RAID and portability are simply priceless to those businesses looking for those two key points. CRU's claim that it sells it DataPort 25 to such organizations as Police departments, Medical institutions gives you a rough idea of the kinds of the institutions that need to keep their data on a device that is resistant to failure.
