Nvidia has a killer framework in their hands that holds enormous potential in many different marketplaces. It's desirable to gamers interested in more realistic gameplay physics, the medical community trying to find cures for diseases, financial institutions running statistical simulations and the list goes on. Nvidia has a whole page dedicated to all the applications and white papers that can utilize CUDA. It will be interesting to see how things pan out in the different market places, especially video encoding. With the advent of Blu-Ray burners and high definition video, the prospect of being able to accelerate the transcoding of high definition video (it takes many hours to transcode a high definition movie on high performance rigs) by using hardware that you probably already have is a very enticing one. I'm looking forward to all the advances that are bound to come from this technology.
