2001 Ford Expedition Side Mirror Replacement
Door Removal:
Tricky Tricky....if you don't know what you're doing at all. First we start off by removing the housing from the light on the door. It's the 2/3 clear, 1/3 red plastic piece on the door. There is a notch underneath it, and all you need to do it push up on it (with your fingers or a flathead screwdriver). This will then pull off exposing a star screw. Remove the screw and put it someplace safe.

Store the screw in a safe place |
Now we move on to the door panel. Locate the door handle. Pull the handle outwards and remove the circular plastic piece from behind it. There is a bolt behind it which holds the handle onto the door. Remove it and place the handle in a safe location. Take note of the lightbulb here. We will be removing it later from behind the door.

Above the door handle, there is an instrument panel that controls the windows and door locks. This piece is quick release. Simply pull upwards on the panel, and it should pop out of the socket. Remove the plugs that are attached to the panel. This will make it easier when we remove the door later. There is a screw behind the panel with a phillips head. Remove it and place it in a safe location.

Now for the final screw. On the inside of the door where the mirror would be, there is a triangular shaped piece (called the sail by many). Remove the top by pulling towards you. There are now two angled pieces that fit into the door on the bottom of the sail. While pulling towards you, pull upwards on the sail (towards the roof). The sail should pop off, exposing some padding. Remove this sticky padding to access the screw behind it.

Once this screw is removed, we can now pull the door off. Lift upwards (towards the roof) and then pull towards you. Be careful.You need to make sure the instrument panel cables fall through the socket, as well as twist and pull the light from the housing. Make sure you remove the light.

Congratulations, you've removed your door! Do whatever you want to it and reverse the steps to get the door back on. Make sure you're careful when placing the door panel back on so you don't break the door lock mechanism. As you would guess, just be careful and you'll be fine.
