Burning a .iso file to CD
Once the new operating system is downloaded, you will notice that it is of type .iso. Iso is a file format which is a digital image of the CD, it can be used to backup a disk or even to put the data back onto the disk. In this case, someone has already taken the data from the original install disk and backed it up to an .iso file, now we are going to take that and put it back onto a disk. We are going to use two different programs to show you how to burn the iso to a disk. The two programs that we decided to show is Nero Burning Rom (comes with Nero) and Roxio.
Nero Burning Rom:
1. Start Nero Burning Rom
2. When opened, a wizard will help guide you through the process. It is defaulted to CD-Rom (iso), which is exactly what we want. Make sure that it is the chosen one and click ‘New’ at the bottom of the window.
3. Now you will be choosing which file you want to be placed on the CD. In this window, the left half is what is going to be added to the CD (currently nothing), and the right half is your file browser. Browse through your computer until you find the Ubuntu iso file that you have just downloaded and drag and drop the file over to the left side of the window.
4. Once you drop it, you will receive a pop-up window asking you if you would like to burn the image of this file. Click ‘Yes’.
5. You are now back to the previous screen, with CD Image as the type of burning you would like to do. You can click on the ‘info’ tab and verify that you have the right iso selected ( the one you just added ), or if you feel confident, click ‘burn’.
6. Now the burning process has begun and you can sit back and relax for the next 5-10 minutes while it burns to the CD. Once it is finished the CD will automatically be ejected from the CD burner and ready to use.
Roxio:
Here we are going to show you how to burn the ubuntu iso to a cd.
1. Start Roxio
2. On the left hand side of the window click on 'Copy'
3. Then click on 'Burn Image'
4. Once the new window is open in the main frame of the program, press the 'Browse' button which will open up a file chooser allowing you to select which files you want to add to your CD.
5. At this point, you are going to want to choose the ubuntu iso that you have just downloaded. So naviagate through your computer and find where you downloaded it to, and select that file.
Once the file is added you are then going to want to click the 'Click button to continue' Button to burn the iso to the CD. Burning will take around 10 minutes depending on the burn speeds.
6. Once finished the CD tray will open automatically allowing you to remove the cd from the drive.
