I have a monthy cleaning day on my PC.  I do these things and it keeps my computer running fast.

1)Delete all TEMP internet files
2)Delete all temporary files
3)Delete all files that i do not need anymore
4)Empy recycle bin
5)Run ScanDisk
6)Run a full defrag.

If you do this once a month your puter should stay in tip-top shape
