it don't matter...we dont have a thread specificaly for this
ATI just got their card out so they could show it off as being better than Nvidia, but that is only because they know what is going to happen if they try to face them with a fair competition. ATI already has driver problems, and then they go release their cards with a beta version (which means it is being tested to get the bugs out) of DirectX 9 (a Microsoft program which means it already has bugs to add up to a really bugged program to go with the horrible drivers).

What I want to know it if, when ATI and nVidia get their new cards out to market, will that make the GeForce4s more affordable??? I know...I know...I am usually about one generation behind...that's the only way i can get fairly close to cutting edge technology without breaking the bank.

Well, the ATI's are already out. The GF4's have gone down a little bit in price, but they will make the major dip when the NV30's (GeForce 5's) come out.
Your probably still way ahead of me. I have an S3 Trio 4Mb video card, but we have been planning on getting a GF4, and now we have decided to wait for the GF5's to come out to get the GF4.

Actually, in one machine I have a GeForce2 GTS with 32MB DDR and in the other machine I have a GeForce3 Ti200. Of course then there is the old Micron Pentium 1 (before MMX) that has an old Diamond board in it. Guess that is pretty old. I may replace the Pentium 1 with an old Abit KT7A-R board I have sitting around...can put in 512MB of good SDRAM...and because I just got my AMD XP 1800+ processor I will be putting the AMD Athlon 1GHz chip in the Micron machine. That way I can give the Micron to my daughter to take to college. May have to settle for the old graphics card, sound card, modem and NIC, but I can get away with that pretty easily. Now...just have to come up with some speakers for her and also an inexpensive 17" monitor...Building these things is fun!

The prices for new high-end cards have consistently started at around $400.

Dammit, why do I read things like this? Now I'm being driven from inside to save money, so I'll have $400+ by the time this card rolls out. I've never had the top generation of cards while they've been top generation. The closest I've had was a 3dfx Voodoo 5 5500 AGP before they'd released GeForce 3s of any sort. The Voodoo 5 did compete with GeForce 2 MX cards nicely, and did have the best FSAA technology on the market, but it wouldn't compete with GeForce 2 GTS, or GeForce 2 Ultras.
I've been planning on getting a GeForce 4 Ti4400 for a while, but now that I see this...well, I think I could manage $400 by October (well, I'll definately have gotten that much money...it's a matter of saving that much that worries me). I would be such a pimp if I got the NV30 when it came out, just like this guy over here -> .

chplndave, with your KT7A-RAID, you need to make sure it is version 1.3 or later because the earlier versions donot accept the Athlon XP series because of physical components not supporting it, so no BIOS can fix that. BTW, I have a Cirrus Logic, which is probably an antique by now.
I wonder what features they will have on the NV30's. They most likely will make VIVO more standard with the various manufacturers, because that's what they were hoping for with the GF4's, but the manufacturers had money on the mind instead. It'll also be interesting to see what they do with their memory management.

Computer #2 Enlight case, OCZ 420 watt PS, IWill XP333-Raid mobo, I will put the AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.13GHz proc here, Mushkin PC3200 CAS 2.5 256MB, Vantec CCK 6027D copper heatsink fan combo, IBM 75GXP 46.5GB HDD (yup, its still running fine after nearly two years), 1.44MB FDD, Sanyo 8X CD-ROM (I may replace this with a Pioneer 16X tray drive DVD - 116X), SoundBlaster Live! Value sound card, no speakers yet, Leadtek GeForce2 GTS, 32MB DDR graphics card, CTX 1765 - 17" color monitor, Creative Labs ModemBlaster V.90 PCI modem, Linksys 10/100 NIC, Micron generic keyboard (for now), MS Intellimouse Explorer mouse
Computer #3 (for my daughter) will have the Abit KT7A-Raid mobo, AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1GHZ proc, 2 x 256MB OCZ PC150 enhanced SDRAM, etc, etc, etc (most of this stuff will be the old stuff in my Micron machine until I can afford to upgrade)
Hopefully you see my plan now.
