I posted this in the mac parody thread too, but here it is again. It's a paper I wrote about PC vs. Mac a little less than a year ago. Enjoy.

Let's look at the facts.  They got a slower computer with almost no upgrade options, and nearly no product availiblity (seen any great MAC titles lately??)  My question is "Mac (l)users are smarter than what?"

What if? I ask you what if a person were to use both PC and MACs. What would the question be then?

And exactly what is the importance. That's like asking who's smarter, someone who uses AMD or Intel CPU's?

Common, we can't be this board to come up with these silly questions. Or can we  : ?
[/quote]
I believe that both of those comments were not addressing the question directly (plz take no offense).

I just want to say a few more things about the topic. Macs are much more compatible than most of us are willing to give them credit for. The story used to be different, but now, with the mass use of USB, Macs can use the majority of the same accessories that PC users can. Macs are actually faster than PC's when it comes to processing power simply because Motorola didn't build them upon the archaic x86 platform and so they can advance that bottleneck without having to worry about compatiblity that AMD or Intel would worry about. Macs are not designed to be modular like PC's are and that makes the performance go up in all categories just because compatiblity isn't as much of an issue. They turn out more calculations per second than even the Athlons, and this can be proven when both are running Linux. There are a lot of add-on cards and features that you can't use with USB, such as video cards or hard drive arrays, that make a PC faster overall when using those features, but that is only because Mr. Gates got the early sales through deception. Macs are also simpler to use, and more stable because of the more advanced platform that Motorla uses, and so they offer a compelling option. They are how ever more expensive as they don't have as many mass sales and customers, and so this disuades many. With software, Macscan run most of the software a PC can run because of software Mac users can download that will run PC software. (Don't think I support Macs...read on>)

With that in mind, Macs would likely be a better choice to many users, especially those new to using a computer. For most of the more advanced PC users, however, we like and are used to customization, and so PC's are better because of the modular design which is inherent. Windows does offer much more tweakability than the other OS's and so we can make our systems fit how we want them to. We can make the systems ours', not something that everyone else has. PC's are a better choice for many of us, including me, but don't knock Mac about their compatability or performance, knock them about their ability to be customized. Knock them about not getting more companies to create non-USB parts for them to make them more modular (like a PC).

As for the question itself (yeah I already answered, just have more to say), Mac users are smarter, but not in the way we are immediately conlcluding. They are usually the people that are more IQ intelligent and have the money to afford a more stable system than a PC. They have more intellect than many PC buyers, such as those who want a bargain-basement machine. It's not likely that a PhD is going to have a tough time buying a Mac; it is likely that someone who has not been educated and cannot get as good of a job that will go for a bargain-basement system just to get the experience that a computer can offer. Most of this is fact, not opinion.

Just some notes:
Jinx: IEEE created USB, but Mac and Sony co-invented Firewire (which was advanced off the 1394 platform that IEEE created for USB), but Firewire never took off with the drive that USB took off because Sony and Mac wanted the royalties that ended up costing them sales in other areas.

Omega: Good Article, had correct pro's and con's for each (for the time written)

No offense taken Vee_Ess,

But the thread is in fact who do you think is smarter MAC users or PC users.

Now if I understand the question it means the people using them, which is smarter.

Silly question, I just adlibed what if one was to use both? And really it is a silly question. It's the same as I stated before "Who is smarter someone who uses AMD or Intel? Does it really matter.

The question, there is no real answer. The thread isn't about MAC configuration, compatibility and the like. Nor is it about PC's and where they came from. It's about the Luser I mean users that use them.

No big deal, makes for an amusing thread. At least no one is beating each other up in this one  :

No offense takin' Vee_Ess I was just addin' some humor with my sarcastic answer.  In my book if your buying something with that many limited options just how intelligent could you really be?  I have a friend that use Mac's at work.  Not one good word has came from his mouth about the system.  Haven't used one personaly and don't want to in all honesty.
