What I believe his intended comment to be is, "I am wondering how many speakers programmers program for, when they program/code for Direct Sound 3d. Is the answer four, or what?" Basically, I think he wants to know what the industry standard is for Direct Sound 3D programming. I don't think there's really an industry standard, but if games do support surround sound, I believe the farthest they go is 4-channel surround (4.1). DVD's seem to be all that truly uses 5.1, and I'm not sure if anything actually uses 6.1 (other than simulated 6.1).
