Is Raid 0 Pointless for the desktop user?

Umm I don't know how much I'd believe those scores because my sisters BF has RAIDed Raptors and they definately show more than a 20% increase... It makes me wonder about how good the Intel ICH5R I/O controller is rather than the technology itself.
