Installation:
Mounting of the MegaMite could be done in many ways. The most efficient way would be using Artic Silver Epoxy and permanently gluing it to the northbridge. Another would be using a much less efficient thermal tape. Artic Silver Epoxy was not the best solution for everyone because not everyone wants a permanent cooling solution on their northbridge but do not want the inferior performance of thermal tape. To remedy this I whipped up a quick mod to get the MegaMite mounted onto the northbridge in a similar manner that the stock hsf was.
(looking at the original heatsink, there is a common overlap where notches could be cut to allow mounting with anchors)
Modification:
The supplies you will need are the following:
1. Dremmel
2. Reinforced fiberglass cutting wheel
3. (2) Two anchors ( there are many types of anchors that can be used, the kind chosen was not for any specific reason other than they where the only ones I had)
The mod can be done as follows.
1. Remove the fan from the MegaMite
2. Using a dremmel remove the fin at the corner of the heatsink on both sides where you plan to cut the notches.
3. Cut a small notch into the corner of the heatsink big enough that the shaft of the anchor could slide into it, and there is enough slack on top for the anchor to rest on.
(because of careless dremmel work there where a few small slit ups where I damaged the fins near the notch but those are just cosmetic and will not affect the mod's success)
4. The modification is now complete. You may proceed to mount the MegaMite onto the northbridge using standard Arctic Silver 3, also provided by 1CoolPC, as a thermal compound. Be sure to remove all residue of the previous compound. When installed properly it should look like this:
Now that the MegaMite is securely in place on the northbridge lets continue on to the testing.
