Samsung LTM1575W 15" TFT-LCD Display
Review by Paul Machado on July 2, 2002

Product Supplied By: Samsung Canada
Retail Price: $2,499.99CDN

Testing and Performance:

Now there are not really any real benchmarks or programs to test the quality and performance of a TFT LCD display so my eyes  are the judges here. There are a limited amount of resolutions that this display can be run at if being used as a monitor. For nest viewing pleasure it is recommended that a resolution of 1280x768 is used. Due to the fact that this display has an aspect ration of 16:9 other resolutions will cause distortion and fuzziness.

Like every TFT LCD screens it is best if you seat yourself at least four feet from the screen. If seated too close to the screen the picture will seem fuzzy and not as sharp as it should be. The further you are from the screen the sharper the image gets. This is true for every TFT LCD television or monitor. If you have not watched television on a TFT LCD screen you will be surprised about how sharp and clear the images come out.

Now I'm sure you are all wondering how the display performs in games and movies. Well I must say it is phenomenal. Now if you are a hardcore gamer you may see a little ghosting here and there. For the average gamer and movie watcher like myself I must say I was very impressed. Very minimal ghosting and choppiness was seen in gaming and movie watching. Since I cannot show any kind of numbers that relate to the effectiveness of the refresh rate this is all my personal opinion.

Final Words & Conclusion:

Well as you can see for yourself this is one unique product packed with tons of features and functions. Let alone the sleek design is a selling point itself. The LTM1575W will add sophistication to any room or office. The growing trend of slim products that take up a minimal amount of space and are able to accomplish so many things is absolutely displayed in this product.

This product is certainly aimed at the mid to higher end markets providing a fair sized screen with TV/monitor capabilities for $2,500CDN. With a maximum resolution of 1280 x 768 which is fairly decent supporting RCA cables and S-Video this product does not lack much. I would have liked to see  support for digital DVI like the higher end monitors Samsung offers but the analog signal is surely enough for who this product is aimed at.

Pros:

▫ Great overall design/look
▫ Plenty of features to keep everyone happy
▫ Gaming and DVD superb
▫ Low radiation/noise

Cons:

▫ Price to size ratio
▫ No DVI support

Award:
