Fanatec Porsche 911 Racing Wheel

Main Parts: Side Shifters, Tubes Cables, Power Supply and Lap Wings

We next take a look at the choice of shifter mechanisms provided by Fanatec for your racing pleasure. Fanatec has included 3 different shifters with the Porsche 911 Turbo Wheel system, and having this choice of shifters is one big reason for purchasing this fine system. You have a choice to use the sequential gearbox shifter (merely forwards and backwards movement to shift from gear to gear), the H-pattern shifter (much like how a real car shifts-6 speeds), and the early mentioned steering wheel paddles on the backside of the steering wheel which are nicely integrated into the wheels' spokes, this latter version also meant for sequential type gearbox shifting but more like the F1 car racers and sim racers use.

The two separate shifter sticks are fastened to the steering wheel base via two provided stainless steel tube providing a sturdy mount for them. This fit is very tight and prevents the shifters from sliding around. The tubes can also be placed and extended on either side of the wheel for left and/or right handed shifting (for Eastern or Western driving habits). On the underside of each of the separate shifter sticks you have the small flush mount connector which with the provided cables, allows you to connect the shifter to the wheel's base. We would like to add here that all of the cables for connecting the devices were more than long enough to set it in any configuration you might want.

Included in the box are a pair of lap-wings which can be left-off the unit, but are intended to be used should you want to rest the steering wheel on your lap, such as when playing on a Playstation console in your living room couch. These are easily mounted and un-mounted to the wheels housing using the table clamp fixation mechanism that securely holds them in place allowing the user to rest it comfortably on their lap and with the ability to set the unit to the side easily when not in this form of use. The lap-wings have been designed to also be adjustable for leg widths, and can be adjusted outwardly from center for the individuals comfort. The lap-wings are not used when mounting to a tabletop. The power supply for this system was well thought-out, too many times have we had game systems where we wish we had a few more feet to comfortably set up the system to our liking without having to deal with short power cords, well the people at fanatec have accommodated us with very long cables from the power brick provided, and with a quick disconnect to it allowing you the ease with which to move your system around as you choose fit.
