Testing:

The Logisys 550W 12cm LED Acrylic Power Supply was placed in the following rig:
- Antec 900 case
- Intel Core 2 Quad E6700 2.66GHz
- Intel DG33TL LGA 775 motherboard
- 640GB Raid 0 SATA Array
- 2GB OCZ Platinum DDR2-800 RAM dual-channel
A radioshack multimeter was used in the test, and was monitored through each step of the computing process. The voltage differences are recorded below:
+12V | +5V | |
Boot | 11.99V - 12.12V | 5.22V - 5.30V |
Idle | 12.10V - 12.12V | 5.22V - 5.24V |
Stress | 12.04V - 12.13V | 5.22V - 5.26V |
Shut-down | 12.08V - 12.12V | 5.23V - 5.24V |
Bios | 12.148V | 5.287V |
As you can see, the fluctuation wasn't bad, with a max of 0.13 in voltage change during bootup. It was a bit bouncy, which isn't good for a system, but overall it handled my system quite well. The +5V rails seemed just a tad bit higher than I would like to see as well, though ATX standards don't show these voltages to be a problem. Overall this power supply passed our testing quite well.
A Closer Look
Close-up, the power supply is built quite well, with all edges matching up perfectly. The socket for the power cord is blue UV reactive, and there is venting on the back. The 120mm fan on the top is fairly quiet, and very bright. The green wire sleeving is UV green reactive, and is attached with a black rubber at the base of the cords.
Conclusion:
The Logisys 550W 12cm LED Acrylic Power Supply is a good bang for its buck, priced at $44.99 from Xoxide.com. It makes a great accent to any case, and is fairly stable for a 550W power supply. While I wouldn't use it in everyday life running 9800GTs in SLI, I would still consider it a good power supply for the normal user. There are ample connectors provided, and I didn't need them all in my rig. Overall I feel confident about this product, and would recommend it to someone who wants to jazz up their case.
