Software and Utilities

The most notable piece of software for the Gigabyte GA-MA78GPM-DS2H is AMD OverDrive.  This is a utility used for overclocking a computer while inside of Windows.  The program is AMD’s answer to 3rd party utilities; it’s their attempt to add legitimacy to the field of BIOS utilities.

The program comes with large disclaimers about how you shouldn’t overclock if you don’t know what you’re doing and you would like to keep your hardware warranties.  Once again I’m going to have to recommend you follow these warnings so that you do not damage your hardware.

This utility gives you full control of almost every hardware element on your computer.  It also has an auto clock feature where it tries to find a suitable overclock for you.  I tried the overclock utility and it ended up crashing my computer.  Since it was unable to apply that overclock I went to BIOS and applied it myself.  It said my highest clock should be from 400 to 459, my computer refused to post with that, so I see why it crashed.

The other problem I had with this program is that it wasn’t able to detect a previously applied overclock and overvoltage.  I loaded the program after I had set a previous overclock via BIOS and it said I still had stock settings even though CPU-Z agreed I had indeed set the overclock.  This screen shot is a bit hard to read due to the size constraints imposed by the site, but believe me when I tell you there is a discrepancy.
