Drive Features
Initial power up of the PC the drive showed up correctly in the bios and didn't act any different then any other drive we have reviewed before, but once we put a DVD disk in the drive we scooted back from the drive for a minute since the 48X drive spin up sounded like a mini turbine spinning up, which we chuckled about. After looking at the listed features on the box, it states that “Silent Technology” was built into the drive to reduce vibration and noise. This “Silent Technology” includes ABS (Auto Balance System) which decreases the vibration. The noise factor is taken care of by Aopen's Noise-control System (NCS), considering the spin up noise we can't imagine how the drive would sound without it.

Using DVDinfo © to queue some of the features the drive supports and this was quite the eye opener due to the amount of features this drive has. This drive covers all formats but one that DVD info lists which is one of the very few drives we have reviewed that is capable of dealing with all these formats and is only one thus far that is able to burn at these high speeds (less wait time during burning).
