The Serial ATA interface is slowly but surely pushing the PATA interface down the drain. Nearly every single motherboard manufactured these days comes with SATA and/or SATA RAID. All of these motherboards still obviously sport the PATA interface as well, not only for IDE hard drives but for optical drives as well. Soon enough however we'll likely see new motherboards with no signs of PATA, especially considering some of the new Serial ATA based optical drives starting to hit the market.
So here we are taking a look at a controller card from Promise Technologies, dubbed the FastTrak TX4200. This is a 4-port SATA RAID 0/1/10 controller card, with support for Native Command Queuing, and Tagged Command Queuing. NCQ is explained in our 400GB HD head to head article here.
