Silicon Power Touch 510 USB Drive

Conclusion

As clearly visible from the benchmark results, the Touch510 drive beats the Transcend JetFlash 110 drive easily - and sometimes shamefully! The use of the dual Samsung SLC chips really do make the drive excel at the benchmarks and provide that just a little more juice that we crave.

These Touch510 units are priced at $34.95 for 1Gb, $54.95 for 2Gb, $109 for 4Gb and the mighty 8Gb model will set you back just under $200.

Silicon Power may not be as readily known as Transcend or Kingston but do have one fine product which deserves attention and it was no surprise that they received the inaugural "2006 Best of Taiwan's Best Award" for Q2 of 2006.

PRO:

High Transfer Rates & Great performance

Innovative design and concepts behind the USB Connector button

Good placement of the activity indicator, clearly visible light.

CON:

If we're really being picky, the method of pushing the USB Connector back in can give you some sore fingers after several times, but again that's *if* we're being picky.

Pricing may be steep compared to other units that offer similar capacities.

Packaging was bear - Unit only, as mentioned in the article this is primarily because we received an early evaluation unit.

If we had to rate the Touch510 on a scaling from 1-10 where 10 was the highest, we'd give it a 9 followed by the JetFlash110 at 8.

We would like to thank Achieva Technologies Australia for graciously providing us with the JetFlash and Silicon Power units and of course to Silicon Power for giving us the first exclusive look at the unit.
