Fabrik Ultimate Backup:

Another feature available with the Signature Mini is Fabrik's Ultimate Backup. Ultimate Backup is a service offered by Fabrik to store data on one of their 448-bit encrypted secure servers. You are allowed to use 2GB free for starters, though you must pay for more space than that. We went ahead and tested the Ultimate Backup service with our 2GB of free data storage.

Going back to our initial installation screen for the TotalMedia Backup & Record, we click the "Fabrik Ultimate Backup" button instead.

We are taken to the Fabrik website where we must register for our account. We only need to provide an email address, a password, and enter a CAPTCHA for verification that we're real human beings.

We are then given a screen telling us to check our email and click the link to verify our account. Once this is done we can download and install the Ultimate Backup utility, which is only 6.9MB.

Once the program is downloaded, run the .exe to log into the backup service. After that, you may select the type of encryption you would like to use.

Ultimate Backup will then scan your computer and allow you to choose which types of files you would like to back up. Once you select which ones you want, click next to continue. Fabrik then performs a LAN connection analysis to see what type of connection you have.

Once the program shows you what your connection speed is, you may click Next to proceed to the speed selection screen. With my machine, it reports the "Faster Computer" setting should take 2 weeks, 1 day to back up 1.5GB of data! Set all the way to the "Quicker Backup" button, it still reports it will take 1 day. I selected quicker backups and clicked next.

Fabrik then runs in your taskbar, using up as much memory as you select in the speed screen.

The backup took me roughly three days. I assume this was due to the amount of hours my computer was on each day, but I believe it totaled to approximately 12-15 hours each day. I can't imagine why anyone would need to secure 1.5GB of data with 448-bit encryption on a server somewhere, but if they did, it would take the better of 3 days to do it with this program. When it is completed we are shown this screen.

The nice thing is that each time a backup is done, only edited or new files are uploaded. This ensures that a backup will not take three days unless all your data is new.
