Test System:

Testing for this drive was conducted with the following system:

Operating System Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit, SP1
Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E4600
Motherboard ASUS Commando
Memory 2 x 1GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800
Video Card Sapphire Radeon HD 4830
Hard Drive 1 Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 160GB SATA-150
Hard Drive 2 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA-150
Hard Drive 3 Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-150
Power Supply Coolmax GreenPower CUG-950

SiSoftware Sandra:

SiSoftware's Sandra is a full benchmarking suite, covering a wide range of different subsystems. We used the physical disk read test, to measure the raw throughput of the drive.

Normal Turbo

With TurboHDD USB disabled, Sandra recorded an average read throughput of 29.77MB/s, which is fairly respectable for a USB drive. With TurboHDD USB enabled, the average speed jumped to 35.89MB/s, a difference of 6.12MB/s. Not earth shattering, but certainly a noticeable jump.

Crystal DiskMark

Crystal DiskMark is a disk-oriented benchmark utility that measures read and write performance in a non-destructive manner. Each test pass does a sequential read/write for the selected size, and random read/write tests for 512k and 4k blocks of data.

Crystal DiskMark 50MB normal 50 Mb test turbo 100 Mb test normal 100 Mb test turbo
50 MB test normal 50 MB test turbo 100 MB test normal 100 MB test turbo
500 Mb test normal 500 Mb test turbo 1000 Mb test normal 1000 Mb test turbo
500 MB test normal 500 MB test turbo 1000 MB test normal 1000 MB test turbo

Performance was fairly uniform across the board, with large files seeing the most benefit from enabling turbo mode. On files 50-1000MB in size, enabling turbo mode resulted in an average improvement of 8.49MB/s for reads, and 5.35MB/s for writes. You won't be mistaking this drive for an eSATA model any time soon, but these are certainly good numbers for a USB drive.
