Thoughts and Conclusion
While using this drive, one thing that struck me immediately is how quiet it is. Even at full blast, the drive never emits more than a muffled, rhythmic clicking noise. The aluminum enclosure manages to dissipate the drive's heat quite well without the aid of any fans, and the bamboo panels on top and bottom never got more than pleasantly warm to the touch. This is especially relevant if you're using this drive for sneakernet purposes, as grabbing on to a hot metal enclosure can be quite unpleasant.
Ecological friendliness is a concern that the computer industry as a whole has been paying very visible attention to in the past few years. From Intel advertising their processors' performance in computes/watt, to the widespread adoption of the EU's RoHS directive, everyone is pushing the ecological angle, hoping that thinking green will translate into more green for their wallets. SimpleTech's entry into this field is no slouch, providing top-notch performance in an ecologically friendly and esthetically appealing package. While no one will argue that USB is the ideal interconnect for maximum drive performance, the [re]drive manages to squeeze out every bit of performance USB has to offer, and at $79.99 at (our REALTIME PRICING at TOP), it offers plenty of bang for your buck.
