Crysis

Palit - ATI Radeon 4870

Despite all the recent new game releases, Crysis still continues to be one of the, if not the most hardware intensive game on the market. Thereby those of you who were waiting to get an affordable card to play Crysis will be very pleased with the results.

Crysis uses the CryEngine 2 which is a revision of the first CryEngine first developed for and used in Far Cry (for those of you who didn't know, it may shed some light on why the whole game is based on and island). The engine features destructible vegetation, buildings, shading effects, water effects, and environmental interaction. The newest improvement of the Cry Engine 2 over its predecessor is support for the new shadier models and DX10 in addition to DX9.

Ah yes! For all those alien loving/ busting fanboys and fangirls who up to now dreamed of playing your favorite game at high settings with a card under $300, dream no more. Not only did the Palit's Radeon 4870 render the game at a playable frame rate, it did so at 1680 x 1050 resolution and high settings. I also noted that on very high settings "playable" could only be achieved at a resolution of 1280 x 1024. Without 4X Anti-Aliasing and 16X Anisotropic Filtering at v. High the 4870 will run crysis at 23.89 fps.If these single card figure don't have you salivating yet, may I present to you the figures from the CrossFire:

And there you have it Crysis maxed out and still at playable frame rate. Please note that these figures at 1680 x 1050 resolution, if you want to play at higher resolutions, you can try overclocking this card but it will surely cry uncle (in the alien ship) before rendering a playable frame rate even in CrossFire configuration.
