Help...NTLDR missing on xp!!!!!

I had the same problem, here the FIX

Boot the W xp CD, en E for repairconsole
To replace damaged ntldr and ntdetect.com you can copy fresh files from the XP CD using the COPY command. At the Command Prompt type the following
COPY D:\i386\NTLDR C:\
COPY D:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
(d: = cdrom, or whatever you use)

type FIXBOOT ...

Reboot and ENJOY

Thanks to Uranium-235 - I had this problem on XP Home today and did a Google on 'ntldr missing' and found this thread. Sure enough, I had left a floppy in the drive when booting.

Thank you Anders!!!! I recently had a virus that killed my harddrive. I put in a new one and installed XP. The bootfile was never right on the new harddrive and I've been booting with a floppy as I was to busy to try and find out what was wrong. I think there may be something wrong with the new harddrive or the virus did something other than kill by old harddrive. Anyway today I was installing Picture It 2000 and the computer rebooted right in the middle of the install. Then came the "no NTLDR" message. I tried what you said to do and it still would not work. I was able to add those two files to my boot floppy and it started right up. THANK YOU!!!! You saved my picture files!

i used the rceovery CD and did write new boot sector once (fixboot is the command i belive) but other times after getting the BSOD (yes, in XP) for different reasons, this didnt work. i think it depends on what you did as to how you fix it. or, in my case, if it can be fixed.

i learned most of the stuff i know from trial and error. school wouldve been cheaper.

I've tried the steps recommended by Anders but it still didn't work.
Stress levels are rising here.

Any other way I can get the comp to start up?

Please, give a few details about what the computer is doing, what happened at the time that the issue started (possible causes), and general system specs related to OS layout (ie. Windows XP on the only partition on the only drive).

sorry to bring back such a dead thread but it was one of the top results on google and I really need help with this issue.

I think last night a virus got into my computer so when I started it today I got NTLDR is Missing. It wont go any farther into the system. I went into the bios and switched my hd to a smaller drive thats just in there (not even used). I figured I could just retrieve my files that way but it says access denied when I try to view my files. Im using windows xp, and im a complete noob about computer functions. I have 30 gigs of unreplaceable data that I need to get back; any help would be greatly appreciated.
