Intel Q9650 3.00GHz Quad Core Processor

Intel

Whetstone Test:

As Wikipedia.com points out, a whetstone test "measures the floating-point arithmetic performance." This is much like SiSoft Sandra and some of our other benchmarks used in this review.

Whetstone Test Whetstone Test Whetstone Test
Intel Q6700 @ 1066MHz
Intel Q6700 @ 1333MHz
Intel Q9650 @ 1333MHz

Again, the Intel Q9650 beats out the Q6700 at both FSB values.

Overclocking:

We promised the folks over at Western Digital we wouldn't fry any more VelociRaptors by extreme overclocking, so we settled for a CPU preset overclock. Using the ASUS Extreme Tweaker program on our Striker II Extreme motherboard, we were given the following options: Overclock to QX9770, and Crazy.

Those two overclocks yielded the following:

ASUS Extreme Tweaker Q9650 at QX9770
ASUS Extreme Tweaker Q9650 at Crazy
Intel Q9650 @ QX9770
Intel Q9650 @ Crazy

The Q9650 operates at 3.19GHz with the QX9770 overclock, and at 3.51GHz with the Crazy option. We're pretty much guarenteed that it's stable since ASUS controls the overclock! Way to go Intel!
