Half Life 2: Episode 2

Half Life 2: Episode 2

Of all the classic computer games out there, Half Life has been around for quite a while. Half Life 2: Episode 2 is the latest in the series, and that's exactly what we'll be benchmarking today. Just like we did in Call of Duty, Nitro has made us a time demo to use. The settings we used are listed below. As we said earlier, all of the gaming benchmarks were performed with a 1680 x 1050 resolution. We chose to have high model detail, high shader detail, the highest Anti-Aliasing (16xQ), and the highest Anisotrophic filtering.

The data we see from this test is pretty good! With settings this high, it's rare to see rates above 100FPS. This processor handled the game quite well. Looking at the screenshot from the internal benchmarking program , we see that it's clocked at 101.34FPS. Quite respectable.

After bringing the Q6700 up to 1333MHz, we see the average jump up again, nudging it to 103.277FPS. The internal benchmark reads 103.76FPS. Pretty good for a small change in frequency.

The Q9650 stomps over the other two benchmarks with a solid read of 107.988FPS. The internal benchmark reads 108.37FPS.

Overall, the tests were quite impressive and I was very surprised to see HL2 run over 100FPS, especially the ~108FPS from the Q9650.
