HighPoint RocketRAID 2640X4
Testing
4x Fujitsu 15k SAS
The second configuration was four SAS drives configured in both RAID0 and RAID5 to see the effects of the two major types of RAID on the performance of the array. These Fujitsu drives are very high end, so I am quite excited about the tests to come. Lets see what these babies can do! After formatting, the RAID0 array is 275 GB.

CrystalDiskmark shows that these drives are blazing fast; especially when you configure them in a striped RAID0 array. Compare these numbers to the speeds given for the 1TB drives earlier in the review. Notice how high the random access speeds are, 3.5MB/s and 15.11MB/s, wow!

SAS technology offers increased read and write performance without sacrificing on seek time. Notice here that the seek time is a blazingly fast 4.2ms.

HD Tune makes an appearance in this configuration showing how the performance of the RAID0 is consistent and extremely fast! Look at the average read speed, which is around 160MB/s. Also note that in this test the mean seek time was 6.7ms which is quite good.

Once again, look at where that red line is. These SAS drives are literally scorching the competition. With an average read speed of just over 170MB/s, I am at a loss for words. This is simply amazing.

In this test we see the same behavior as in the previous configurations, the performance of the array in a RAID0 for writes isn't quite as spectacular as before but over the long haul it still beats the competition.
