Recording Tests
The CD used for the recording tests was "Show" by The Cure, which is 73:59.6 minutes long.
The graph's results are pretty self explanatory. The Lite-On has the jump on the other two drives with its PCAV writing strategy, which allows it to obtain an overall high average writing speed. The Lite-On is the definitive speed daemon of the three. Keep in mind, however, how small the differences in time are. Under three and a half minutes is certainly nothing to shake a stick at.
Rewriting Tests
Two benchmarks were done to evaluate the rewriting capabilities of these drives. First, rewriting to the disc a full length CD (the same as used in the writing benchmarks), and then a full erase.
The Plextor comes in first by a few seconds, followed by the Lite-On and then the Teac. Again, not a whole lot of difference in the writing times, but for those who rewrite constantly the Plextor is the optimal choice.
