ATP EarthDrive 4GB Flash Drive
Test Rig:
Motherboard | ASUS Striker II Extreme motherboard |
RAM | Kingston 2GB DDR3-1600 kit |
Graphics Card | ATI Radeon HD 3870 |
Hard Drive | Western Digital VelociRaptor |
Power Supply | Tagan BZ900 900W PSU |
Chassis | Thermaltake Kandalf LCS case |
Operating System | Windows Vista 32-bit |
Testing:
The ATP EarthDrive was tested in the previous rig using such benchmarks as HD Tune, CrystalDiskMark, and Flash Memory Toolkit.
HD Tune:
We ran HD Tune on the ATP EarthDrive, using both the Benchmark tool and the File Benchmark tool. The Benchmark tool shows us the maximu, minimum, and average read speed of the flash drive. It also shows us the access time, burst rate, and CPU usage. The File Benchmark shows us how the MB/sec read and write time correspond to different sized files.

The Benchmark shows us our minimum read speed is 29.3MB/sec, with a maximum of 29.6MB/sec and an average of 29.4MB/sec. Our access time is 1.0ms, since it's a flash device, with a burst rate of 25.0MB/sec and 5.2% CPU usage. The CPU usage is a little higher than I would have hoped for, though most PCs today can handle it without a problem.
CrystalDiskMark:
CrystalDiskMark tests the average Sequential, 512K, and 4K speeds for read and write of the ATP EarthDrive. We use different sized files (50MB, 100MB, 500MB, and 1000MB).

As we can see, our average is ~32.35MB/sec, up from 29.4MB/sec from our previous benchmark. We get good solid readings from this benchmark, and the EarthDrive truly performs well - way more than I would have expected from a drive made of corn.
Flash Memory Toolkit:
Flash Memory Toolkit closely resembles the previous benchmarks we've run today, except that it's meant especially for flash devices.

As we did in the previous benchmarks, we see that the Flash Memory Toolkit gets ~30MB/sec read time, and displays much the same results as HD Tune.
