Conclusion
Looking at the Akitio Taurus Mini as a whole I’ve see a solid and well built product. Nice aluminum chassis, Many different connectivity options, and RAID support. I am a little confused as to where Akitio has aimed this product: Portable or Desktop storage (or even if they have). If this truly is supposed to be a portable storage device it leaves the problem of being tethered to a wall for power. If this is supposed to be a desktop storage solution why the short cables? At time of writing the Akitio Taurus Mini Super-S retails (on amazon) for $105.98 and for an enclosure made of aluminum without drives that isn’t a bad price but I do see better options for fast/secure external storage (USB 3.0 comes to mind).

After extended use, a few final points to make:
- The device does not function with only 1 drive installed
- The device does not support hot-swap.
- The device does support SSDs and TRIM as long as the TRIM command originates at the FSB level (aka you can’t have an SSD and a HDD while supporting TRIM)
