As expected, this CPU is on the low end of the performance scale for the current generation, though at no point were any of the scores bad. What is interesting to note is how closely the Athlon II X2 240e compared with the Core 2 E6000 series CPUs. While it suffered on the multi-core efficiency test, the Athlon II 240e mostly kept pace with its near competitors.
Kribi Bench
Kribi Bench is a software based 3D renderer with support for dynamic global illumination, volumetric fog, and arbitrarily large polygon counts. Since this program completely ignores the GPU, it is perfect for testing the raw number-crunching ability of a CPU. Tests were done with the lighting set to Realistic, which causes the engine to do full multi-bounce raytracing on all dynamic lights.
The City.d model consists of a fairly large metropolitan area with numerous skyscrapers, all lit by a single point light source (the sun). At nearly 107 million polygons, this model is intricate by any standard. Kribi Bench does no back-surface culling, which means that every polygon in the model is rendered on every frame, whether it is currently visible to the camera or not. As expected, the AII 240e suffered without the assistance of the GPU on this compute-intensive task, barely managing 3 frames per second.
Pushing things even further, Ultra.d consists of a single building repeated hundreds of times, for a total polygon count of over 16 billion! As expected, the Athlon II 240e suffered even more under this crippling load, managing only 1.18 frames per second.
