PCMark Vantage
PCMark Vantage doesn’t give much in the way of objective performance figures; its main use is for comparison. That is, while it gives a relatively quick way to rank your system among the hierarchy of PCMark Vantage-running people, it doesn’t directly tell you how well your computer will perform a given task. That said, simply watching the tests as they run will give you a rough idea of what to expect, so there’s some benefit there. The Athlon II 240e flew through the various tasks, including HD video playback and encoding, with no stutter, lag, or slowdowns.
3DMark Vantage
3DMark Vantage is by far the more useful of the two benchmark utilities to come from FutureMark in recent years. While the composite scores don’t really mean much, the detailed results to the right are a different story. The CPU tests in this benchmark suite run through a huge array of physics calculations, with no attempts to optimize or minimize their impact. The scores are hardly breathtaking, but very respectable for a budget CPU.
Running the tests again with the CPU overclocked as described above netted some slight performance gains, but nothing really noticeable.
