Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is a new and very fun game. I’ve been playing since the beta, and I highly recommend it. That aside, This test is to show how well the CPU will aid in a real game (instead of just a synthetic test like 3DMark). I used FRAPS to measure the average FPS in a 1 minute set of play with three different graphics configurations. I did not use the integrated GPU for this test, because that would just be horrible.

As you can see, BC2 is definitely playable at 1920×1200 under the default Medium setting with an average FPS of 47. High is very much not playable, with an average FPS of 25FPS. This FPS is fine for single-player (eh), but definitely wont work for multi-player (who plays single player BC2 anyway?). For maximum FPS, simply running on low gets you and average of 73FPS, more than the recommend 60FPS. All of these numbers can easily rise by reducing the resolution. I play the game at 1680×1050 at medium. Keep in mind that these numbers are greatly contributed to the GPU, but the CPU does help.

What review isn’t complete without a Crysis benchmark? For this test I used the Crysis:Warhead benchmark utility v.33. This runs the game at a set level of detail and resolution for a set amount of time. This is not a synthetic and is a good way to test performance. I used 3 resolutions each in DX9 and DX10 on GAMER settings; a total of 6 runs. The tool was not able to run in 64bit.

As you can see, this CPU will run Crysis, though it is heavily GPU dependent. Don’t take this to highly into consideration of the performance of the Athlon II 440 x3.
