Dell XPS 13 Review

CPU/GPU Performance tests

This ultrabook is not a gaming monster, but even with the Intel GPU it scored fairly decent marks in 3DMark tests.
Coming to a 708 with Fire Strike, and averaging about 3.64FPS with this test means that no you can’t run Metro 2033, or Battlefield Hardline on Ultimate settings with this ultrabook.

Getting 2713 with Sky Diver and 5028 with Cloud gate just shows how much power this slim ultrabook can pump if its needed. We were able to run World of Warcraft on Medium settings while getting 23-29 FPS depending on the town. But heavier games like Guild Wars 2 steadied at 15-19 FPS.

Unigine Heaven Benchmark

The Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0 gave us a Score of 215 at High Settings and tesselations Disabled. We were able to squeeze out 8.5 FPS average.

SSD Read and Write test

ATTO SSD Benchmark

As mentioned on the first page of this review, the SSD is rather sluggish. With average Write speeds at 127MB/sec and Read speeds at 523MB/Sec it comes to us at a very interesting time when you can buy yourself a Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD with 530 Read and 504 Write. But that doesn’t mean the SSD is slow. It just means its not going to be blazing fast. With average speeds and constant workload it shouldn’t ever affect the daily use.

Battery Life

Dell claims this ultrabook can last upto 15 hours and 21 minutes on wireless web surfing, this might be true when you first purchase your laptop and with optimal settings. We tested this laptop with full screen brightness and performance battery settings and got about 12 hours and 19 minutes of wireless web surfing. 3 hours in difference is not something to laugh about, but its also nothing that should deter you from this ultrabook considering most laptops can’t get past 8-9 hours on low brightness and efficient settings.
We tested the HD Video playback and got about 10 hours and 33 minutes of battery life while Dell reported 12 hours and 47 minutes. Again the difference is only a couple of hours and shouldn’t affect your purchasing decision.
