Final Thoughts
Pros:
- Very flashy (if that is what you are looking for)
- Plenty of room for expansion
- Adjustable overclocking settings
- Mild overclocking was simple
Cons:
- CPU voltage adjustment is limited
- Changing CPU multiplier disables throttling
Overall I have mixed feelings about the ECS A85F2-A Golden motherboard. On one hand you get the flashy looks, lots of room to expand, and a UEFI with adjustable overclocking settings. Unfortunately though there were a few critical issues such as the wonky CPU voltage adjustment and the fact that when you manually change the multiplier throttling is disabled.
For the general user who wants to do a little bit of mild overclocking, this board is very capable of that, just not much more. More than anything this board would be mainly for someone who likes the color scheme. Many people won’t like the flashy gold on black, but for others it is exactly what they are looking for. At its current price of $117, it is toward the higher end of FM2 motherboards, though close to boards with similar features.
If you are like the color scheme and don’t plan on doing any heavy overclocking, this board wouldn’t be a bad choice. But if you want to push your chip or are not a fan of the gold, there are other motherboards available that may better suit your needs.
Yay, knock-off gold colored substandard Taiwanese solid capacitors. The gold color makes them perform better.
