First Look at NZXT’s Phantom

Interior:

latch mechanism

Take note of the latch mechanism here. I didn’t notice this until after I had removed the thumbscrews from the panels already. This is a neat feature, that I would have missed without further inspection.

thumb screws pci slots power supply ventilation

Here we can see some of the attention to detail that comes with a case of this caliber. In addition to the traditional case thumbscrews NZXT has gone above and beyond to include a virtually tool-less design throughout. Also accompanying the rubber standoffs to prevent vibration on the power supply mount, they have included an under the case ventilation screen, in the event you have need to mount the power supply fan side down, NZXT has you covered.

3.5 drive bays hard drive caddy

On to the 3.5″ bays. they have included space for up to seven drives, these drives are going to be cooled by the two included 120mm fans on the front side cover. Again the focus has been on ease of installation and performance. These hard drive caddies are very sturdy, the posts used to mount the hard drives are housed in rubber grommets to allow some movement for versatility, as well as vibration dampening.

5.25 removable face plate

5.25 tool-less system

tool less system open

Inside and out I am very Impressed with the thought that went into this case. the face plates on the 5.25″ bays use a snap latch so there is no more frustration with some of the more irritating systems that involve very flimsy tabs. Internally this system is unlike anything i have ever seen. One of the drawbacks to some tool-less designs are the small pieces that are frequently misplaced these drive snaps, (for lack of a better description) are attached so you will never lose them.

screw packages and labels

interior

cable managment

This is the most comprehensive set of screws I have ever received with a case. Instead of your standard assortment bag of posts, screws, and zip ties; NZXT has included individually wrapped and labeled screws that are all painted to match the case, even the posts. I don’t frequently look under my motherboard, but I get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that I’m color coordinated even under the hood. Also we have a good view of the TWO 200mm fan slots and the cable management holes.

  1. How is the white case lit up, is that a special edition, the black version doesn’t seem as bright. I think a feature like that should be highlighted.
